We (my hubby of over 40 years and I) have been empty nesters since our 2 lovely daughters successfully grew up and left the nest. Being the bosses of us, we go out to dinner or a movie on school nights, binge watch British Crime Dramas on Netflix, and sometimes get into PJ’s at 6:30 - all things I wouldn’t trade for the world.
Even with all this fun with hubby, I began to feel the void of the after. After spending over 20 years creating and organizing the girls’ activities, after the time passed for putting candles in their breakfast oatmeal on their birthdays, for cutting their sandwiches into stars and ducks, or for any number of other fun things, came the now what?
Then it dawned on me that I can share my gifts with people who want to celebrate the everyday but don’t know where to begin. Years and years of fun ideas and ways to celebrate life are ready to be out there.
All of these experiences created a watershed moment for me. As many small streams join together at the watershed to create a river, my knack for creating, my simple watercolors and designs and my experience of making simple days more special have come together in A Brown House. My goal is to share them with you so that you may elevate the everyday in your household and create unexpected graces for the people in your life.
I have a lifetime of information to share, ideas for making every day a celebration, and artwork to bring a smile.

You will hardly ever find me without a sketchbook (paper or digital) close at hand. I discovered that my sketches can be put on objects like wrapping paper and notebooks. This led me to the Surface Pattern Design community, which has been more fun than a barrel of monkeys. Putting my designs on fabric, wrapping paper, notebooks, tea towels, prints and more completes my vision of spreading joy by helping you create unexpected surprises in your home.
We really should work together! If you are interested in licensing my designs, email hello@abrownhouse.com for more information. How fun would that be!!
There are unexpected graces all around us, every day.
Thank you for stopping by! It means the world to me. Enjoy your time spent in A Brown House and if you find ways to make your house a home, for me that will be one of today’s graces!
